Antenna: Testing and Inspection
Visually inspect the antenna coaxial cable for proper routing and verify it is not pinched or otherwise damaged. Remove antenna mast and verify adapter stud and antenna end is free of corrosion. A continuity test will verify the internal condition of the antenna cable, connectors and leads.1. Remove glove box from the instrument panel.
2. Disengage antenna cable connector from the extension cable end leading to the radio. Wiggle cable over its entire length to reveal intermittent short or open circuits during steps Step 3, Step 4, Step 7, and Step 8.
3. Using a continuity tester or ohm meter, Test continuity from antenna mast to the center pin in the center of the cable connector behind the glove box.
- If continuity is detected, proceed to step Step 4.
- If continuity is not detected, replace antenna.
4. Test continuity from the antenna cable center pin to the cable casing end.
- If continuity is detected, replace antenna.
- If continuity is not detected, antenna and cable lead is OK, proceed to step Step 5.
5. Remove radio from instrument panel.
6. Disconnect antenna cable extension lead from back of radio.
7. Test continuity from the socket in the center of cable extension behind glove box to the center pin in the center of the cable connector behind the radio.
- If continuity is detected, proceed to step Step 8.
- If continuity is not detected, replace extension cable.
8. Test continuity from the extension cable center pin to the cable casing end.
- If continuity is detected, replace extension cable.
- If continuity is not detected, extension cable is OK.
