Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement

REMOVAL
To remove or install the instrument panel, the steering column must be lowered and then raised. This procedure is not for removal or installation of the steering column. Refer to: "Steering and Suspension : Steering : Steering Column : Service and Repair" Service and Repair

Following is the procedure for steering column lowering and raising:
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the knee blocker as described.
3. Remove the two screws that secure the 16-way data link connector to the knee blocker.
4. Remove the gearshift indicator cable from the PRNDL arm on the steering column.

Steering Column Raise/Lower:




5. Remove the three bolts that secure the steering column toe plate to the dash panel.
6. Remove the two nuts and washers that secure the steering column bracket to the instrument panel steering column support bracket.
7. Lower the steering column.
8. Reverse the lowering procedures to raise the steering column. Be certain that all wiring is clear and not pinched during the raising procedure. Tighten the mounting hardware as follows:
- Steering column bracket nuts - 12 Nm (100 in lb)
- Toe plate bolts - 23 Nm (200 in lb).
