Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications

CYLINDER HEAD SPECIFICATIONS:

Dimensions:

Compression Pressure: 1172 - 1310 kPa (170 - 190 psi)
Gasket Thickness (Compressed): 0.991 - 1.118 mm (0.039 - 0.044 inch)
Guide Bore Diameter: 7.95 - 7.98 mm (0.313 - 0.314 inch)

Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence:





Tightening Sequence/Specifications

Tighten the cylinder Lead bolts in two steps:
Step 1 - Tighten all cylinder head bolts, in sequence, to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.) torque.
Step 2 - Tighten all cylinder head bolts, in sequence, to 143 Nm (105 ft. lbs.) torque.

INTAKE MANIFOLD SPECIFICATIONS:

Upper Intake Manifold And Throttle Body:

GENERAL TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS:

Throttle Body To Intake Manifold 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.)
Air Cleaner Housing 11 Nm (96 in. lbs.)
A/C Compressor Brace 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
Generator Brace 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)

EXHAUST MANIFOLD SPECIFICATIONS:

Exhaust Manifold Bolts 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.)
Heat Shield Nuts 20 Nm (175 in. lbs.)
Exhaust Pipe to Manifold 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.)

CAMSHAFT GEAR/SPROCKET SPECIFICATIONS:

Mounting Bolt 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.)

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT RE-USABILITY:





The Cylinder head bolts should be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down, the bolts should be replaced. Necking can be checked by holding a scale or straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale the bolt should be replaced.

CYLINDER HEAD SURFACE VARIATION:

Inspect all surfaces with a straightedge if there is any reason to suspect leakage. The out-of-flatness specifications are 0.0007 mm/mm (0.0004 inch/inch), 0.127 mm/152 mm (0.005 inch/6 inches) any direction or 0.254 mm (0.010 inch) overall across head. If exceeded, either replace head or lightly machine the head surface.

The cylinder head surface finish should be 1.78-4.57 microns (15-80 microinches).
