Radio - Interference From Buzzer Module

Radio Interference From Buzzer Module

MODELS:
1997 (BR) Ram Truck

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Buzzing noise in the rear radio speakers (radio ON) with the ignition ON and the door ajar.

DIAGNOSIS:

With the doors of the vehicle closed, turn the ignition key to the RUN/AGG position. Turn the radio ON and tune the radio to an AM radio station that provides a clear reception. Position the fade control to the rear speakers. Open the drivers side door. If a buzzing noise is heard in the rear radio speakers (radio ON) with the drivers door open but is eliminated with the door closed, perform the following Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the key in ignition buzzer module with a revised part.

1. Record the radio station presets.

2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. On vehicles equipped with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine, disconnect and isolate both batteries.

3. Remove the fuse access panel from the left end of the instrument panel.





4. Remove the five screws that secure the knee blocker to the instrument panel and remove the knee blocker (Figure 1).





5. On Club Cab models only, remove the six screws that secure the steering column reinforcement to the instrument panel (Figure 2) and remove the reinforcement.





6. Loosen but do not remove the two fuseblock module mounting screws (Figure 3).





7. From underneath the instrument panel, gently push the fuseblock module towards the rear of the vehicle. At the same time, reach through the fuse access panel opening in the left end of the instrument panel and unplug the buzzer module from the receptacle in the fuseblock module (Figure 4).

8. Install buzzer module (pin 56OOIO77AB) by aligning the module terminals with the cavities in the fuseblock module receptacle, then push the module firmly into place.

9. Tighten the two fuseblock module mounting screws.

10. On Club Cab models, install the steering column cover reinforcement and secure it with the six attaching screws.

11. Install the knee blocker and secure it with the five attaching screws.

12. Install the fuse access cover.

13. Connect the battery negative cable(s) and reprogram the radio station presets to the radio frequencies recorded in step 1 and set the clock.
