Excessive Dump Time
NAME OF CODE:Excessive Dump Time Fault
SET CONDITION:
The following criteria must be met for this code to be detected.
1. Brake pedal depressed (to enable antilock activity).
2. Need for more than 24 dump pulses
3. Wheel speed below 6 km/h (4 mph).
4. No 4WD sense signal input.
5. Wheel speed history ruling out unusual events that could satisfy criteria 2 and 3 despite there being no RWAL problem. None of the following is permitted during the 15 seconds preceding the occurrence of the need for 24 dump pulses or the wheel speed below 6 km/h (4 mph).
a. Releasing the brakes wholly or partially from an applied state while in the antilock mode.
b. Wheel speed below 6 km/h (4 mph) while not in antilock mode.
c. Wheel speed increases fast enough while not in antilock mode.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
- Excessive brake pedal use on gravel surface
- Leaky or stuck open isolation valve
- Dump valve stuck closed
- Low pressure accumulator piston stuck in its conventional braking position
- Inoperative 4WD sense circuit
- Parking brake being applied while driving above 6 km/h (4 mph)
- Damaged drum brake components
NAME OF CODE:
Excessive Dump Time Fault
SET CONDITION:
The following criteria must be met for this code to be detected.
1. Vehicle speed above 6 km/h (4 mph) for 9 seconds.
2. Vehicle in anti lock control mode.
3. 9 seconds of continuous dump activity in response to a wheel which has gone to lock and is not recovering.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
- Excessive brake pedal use on gravel surface
- Leaky or stuck dump valve
- Bad pump motor
- Locked rotor forcing wheel lock
- Sensor drop out at speeds below intermittent signal DTC
- Leaky isolation valve which can pull brake fluid from the master cylinder eventually leading to excess fluid in the low pressure accumulator (LPA).
