MODELS:

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE JULY 1, 1998 (MDH 0701 XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
1. The liftgate does not open when ambient temperatures are above 85°F (29°C). The condition may only occur when the liftgate is heated by direct sun light and when the liftgate temperature exceeds 100°F (38°C).
2. The liftgate handle moves when the power door locks are actuated. This condition is usually noticed by customers that actuate the door locks using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system when they are behind the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS:
Since the first Symptom/Condition is difficult to reproduce, perform the Repair Procedure if the customer complains about their liftgate difficult to open in high ambient temperatures. For the second Symptom/Condition, stand at the rear of the vehicle and watch the rear liftgate handle while either having an assistant actuate the power door locks or while actuating the power door locks using the RKE transmitter. If the liftgate handle moves, perform the Repair Procedure.
