Cylinder Head Assembly: Specifications

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT RE-USABILITY

The cylinder head bolts are torqued using the torque yield method, they should be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down, the bolts should be replaced.
Necking can be checked by holding a scale or straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale the bolt should be replaced.

CYLINDER HEAD SURFACE VARIATION

Check Cylinder Head:

3. Check cylinder head for flatness.
4. Inspect all surfaces with a straightedge if there is any reason to suspect leakage. If out of flatness exceeds 0.019 mm (0.00075 inch) times the span length in inches, in any direction, either replace head or lightly machine the head surface. As an example, if a 12 inch span is 0.1 min (0.004 inch) out of flat, allowable is 12 x .019 min (0.00075 inch) equals 0.22 min (.009 inch) This amount of out of flat is acceptable. Maximum of 0.2 mm (0.008 inch) for grinding is permitted.

CAUTION: This is a combined total dimension of stock removal from cylinder head and block top surface.

CYLINDER HEAD BOLT TORQUE/SEQUENCE

Cylinder Head Bolts Location and Tightening Sequence:

Tighten the cylinder head bolts 1-8 in the sequence. Using the 4 step torque turn method, tighten according to the following values:
^ Step 1: Bolts 1-8 to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.)
^ Step 2: Bolts 1-8 to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
^ Step 3: Bolts 1-8 (again) to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
^ Step 4: Bolts 1-8 turn an additional 1/4 Turn. (Do not use a torque wrench for this step.)

NOTE: Bolt torque after 1/4 turn should be over 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). If not, replace the bolt.

INTAKE MANIFOLD SPECIFICATIONS

Intake Manifold Bolts Location And Tightening Sequence:

Lower Intake Mounting Bolts 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.)
Upper Plenum Bolts 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.)
Plenum Support Bracket 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)

EXHAUST MANIFOLD SPECIFICATIONS

Manifold to Cylinder Head Bolts 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.)
Fastener 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.)
Stud 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.)

CAMSHAFT SPROCKET/GEAR SPECIFICATIONS

Sprocket Bolt 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
