P0500 No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal

SYMPTOM
P-0500 NO VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL

WHEN MONITORED
Continuously with the key on. Once per trip for Non RE transmission RE transmissions are monitored when the "Set Conditions" are satisfied.

SET CONDITION
Vehicle must see road and be in the MAP/RPM window with a coolant temperature above 104 deg F. If it is a RE the OSS must also be greater than 64 RPM. The code will set if no VSS is received from the CAB module for more than 15 seconds for two trips.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- CAB module diagnostic trouble codes
- Wiring & connectors OBS defect
- Vehicle speed sensor signal circuit short to ground
- Controller antilock brakes defective
- PCM defective (no vehicle speed sensor signal)
- Vehicle speed sensor signal circuit open
- VSS circuit shorted to voltage
