Alignment Bar:
NOTE: Do not loosen/move alignment bar or alignment bar clamp. The bar is used as a locator for the adjuster clamps.
REMOVAL
Heavy Duty Steering Linkage:
1. Remove steering damper mounting nuts and bolts and remove damper.
2. Remove drag link cotter pins and nuts.
3. Remove drag link from the tie rod and pitman arm with Puller C-3894-A.
4. Mark the pitman arm and shaft positions for installation reference. Remove the nut and washer from the pitman arm. Remove the pitman arm with Puller C-4150A.
5. Remove tie rod cotter pins and nuts.
Steering Knuckle:
6. Remove tie rod from steering knuckles by striking the knuckle at the tie rod with a brass drift and a hammer.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: When installing linkage tighten nuts to proper torque, then align cotter pin slot by tightening nut if necessary.
1. Install the tie rod on the steering knuckles. Tighten the nuts to 1Ol Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Install new cotter pins.
2. Align reference marks and install pitman arm.
3. Install the lock washer and nut on the pitman shaft and tighten nut to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.).
4. Install to the tie rod. Install the nut and tighten to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.). Install new cotter pin.
5. Install drag link to the pitman arm. Install the nut and tighten to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Install new cotter pin.
6. Install steering damper on axle and tie rod. Tighten nuts to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
7. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle to the surface. Center steering wheel and adjust toe.
8. After adjustment tighten tie rod adjustment sleeve clamp bolts to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: Position the clamp on the sleeve so retaining bolt is located on the bottom side of the sleeve.
