Repair Procedure

This bulletin involves replacing the passenger and/or driver side outside power mirror(s).

NOTE:
THE FOLLOWING REPAIR SHOULD BE PERFORMED ON BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT MIRRORS ONLY IF BOTH MIRRORS CREATE STATIC IN THE RADIO SPEAKERS WHEN THE MIRROR IS OPERATED TO THE END OF ITS TRAVEL.

1. Roll the window(s) down.

2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. On vehicles equipped with a diesel engine, disconnect and isolate both battery negative cables.

3. On vehicles equipped with a manual window regulator, remove the window crank (Figure 1).

4. Remove the screw that attaches the trim panel to the outside mirror frame (Figure 2).

5. Remove the screws that attach the pull cup to the door.

6. Using a trim panel removal tool such as Snap On tool A161B, disengage the trim panel retaining clips from the door. Base models, have eleven trim panel retaining clips (clips 12 and 13 not used) and premium models have thirteen (Figure 3). It is very important that a trim panel tool is used to separate each retaining clip from the door.

CAUTION:
DAMAGE TO THE DOOR TRIM PANEL MAY OCCUR IF THE DOOR TRIM PANEL RETAINING CLIPS ARE SEPARATED FROM THE DOOR WITHOUT USING A TRIM PANEL REMOVING TOOL. DOOR PANELS SHOULD NEVER BE REMOVED BY HAND.

7. While holding the bottom of the trim panel away from the door, simultaneously lift upward and inboard.

8. If performing this repair procedure on the driver side power mirror, disengage the outside power mirror switch connector.

9. Disengage the power window/lock switch connector from the switch panel, if equipped (Figure 4).

10. Separate the door trim panel from the door.

11. Remove the mirror flag seal from the inner door panel (Figure 5).

12. Unplug the wire harness connector from the outside power mirror (Figure 6).

13. Remove the three nuts that secure the outside power mirror to the inner door panel.

14. Unseat the outside power mirror wire harness grommet by pushing the grommet out through the hole in the door flag from the inside.

15. Pull the mirror from the outside of the door while feeding the wire harness and connector out through the hole from inside the door.

16. From the outside of the door, feed the wire harness and connector of the new outside power mirror (see Parts Required section) through the hole to the inside of the door then, seat the grommet.

17. Attach the outside power mirror to the door using the three nuts. Tighten the nuts to 7.5 N.m (65 in.lbs.).

18. Engage the outside power mirror wire harness connector.

19. Attach the mirror flag seal onto the inner door.

20. If performing this repair procedure to the driver side power mirror, engage the outside power mirror switch connector.

21. If equipped, engage the power window/power lock switch connector.

22. Position the trim panel onto the door.

23. Engage all door trim panel attaching clips around the perimeter of the trim panel, attaching trim panel to the inner door.

24. Install the screws securing the pull cup to the inner door panel.

25. Install the screw attaching the trim panel to the outside mirror frame.

26. Install the window crank, if equipped.

27. If both mirrors need to be replaced, perform Steps 3 through 26 to the other side of the vehicle.

28. Connect the battery negative cable(s) and reset the clock.

29. Roll the windows up.
