Fuel Fill Check Valves Replacement

Two different one-way check valves are used with the CNG fuel system. One of the valves is located integrally within the fuel fill receptacle. The other valve is located in the fuel fill tube (line) near the manual shut-off valve (Fig. 33).

For removal/installation of the fuel fill receptacle mounted one-way check valve, the fuel fill receptacle assembly must be replaced. Refer to Fuel Fill Receptacle Removal/installation.

For removal/installation of the one-way check valve located in the fuel fill line, proceed as follows:

REMOVAL

WARNING: NATURAL GAS MUST FIRST BE PURGED FROM THE SYSTEM BEFORE CHECK VALVE REMOVAL.

1. Purge fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Purging.

2. Loosen Allen head set screw at side of red colored manual fuel shut-off valve handle (Fig. 34). Remove red colored handle.

3. Remove fuel cylinder shield by removing 14 bolts (Fig. 35). Twelve of the 14 bolts are Torx headed. Two are hex headed.
4. Clean fittings at each end of check valve and at "T" fitting (Fig. 33) before valve removal.
5. Remove fuel line support clips (Fig. 33) at frame rail.
6. Loosen and remove fittings at each end of valve. Use crowfoot-type wrenches on fittings.
7. Remove valve. Note direction of valve.

INSTALLATION
1. Install check valve and finger tighten fittings + 1/12 of a turn.
2. A Go No-Go gauge inspection tool must be used to check fittings after tightening. Refer to Fuel Tubes and Fittings Removal/installation.
3. Perform a CNG leak test. Refer to Testing For Gas Leaks.
4. Position cylinder shield and install 14 bolts Tighten 2 smaller bolts to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque. Tighten 12 Torx headed bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) torque.
5. Apply Mopar (R) Never Seize Compound to end of manual shut-off valve (Fig. 33).
6. Remove Allen head set screw at side of shut-off valve handle. Position handle to extension shaft. Apply blue Locktite 242 to Allen set screw and tighten set screw.
