THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 21-012-00, DATED SEPT. 15, 2000, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES AND NOTED IN THE 200 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN MANUAL (PUBLICATION NO. 81-170-00001). THIS IS A COMPLETE REVISION AND No ASTERISKS HAVE BEEN USED TO HIGHLIGHT REVISIONS.

Transmission Shifter Linkage Rattle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a spring on the transmission linkage
MODELS:
2000 - 2001 (BR/BE) Ram Truck
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A rattling or knocking sound may be present at the driver side floor pan area when the engine is idling.
DIAGNOSIS:
With the engine at idle, listen for a rattling or knocking sound coming from the driver side floor pan area. If the sound can be heard or a if a vibration can be felt in the floor pan, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Place the transmission in park.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
3. Pry the gear shift rod vertical link adjuster block from the torque shaft lever (Fig. 1). Inspect the plastic grommet. If any damage is present, replace the grommet.
4. Remove the three screws that attach the torque shaft to the floor pan support.
5. Remove the torque shaft by prying the shaft out of the plastic grommet on the transmission side. Inspect the plastic grommet for any signs of damage and replace as required.
6. Clean the torque shaft and grommets and apply a coating of grease, p/n 04318063 or equivalent, to the torque shaft in the area that the grommets and spring will sit.
7. Instal the new spring, p/n 05101852AA, over the shaft as shown (Fig. 1) and insert the end of the shaft into the plastic grommet.
8. Install the torque shaft attaching screws and tighten them to 30 Nm (300 in.lb.).
9. install the gear shift rod vertical link into the grommet.
10. Lower the vehicle and ensure that the gear shift link is adjusted properly 3nd that the gear indicator (PRNDL) on the instrument panel is reading correctly. Adjust the shift linkage and/or the indicator cable as required.
