Armrest Lid - Difficult to Open

NUMBER: 23-018-02

GROUP: Body

DATE: May 20, 2002

SUBJECT:
Armrest Lid Difficult To Open

OVERVIEW:

This bulletin involves adjusting the armrest lid latch pin.

MODELS:
2000 - 2001 (BR/BE) Ram Truck

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The armrest lid may be difficult to latch or if latched, may be difficult to open. This may be caused by an improperly adjusted latch pin.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle exhibits the condition, perform the Repair Procedure. If the lid is closed and cannot be opened without using excessive force, the lid or armrest assembly must be replaced.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Open the armrest.

2. Locate the latch pin (Fig. 1) and grasp the pin with a set of locking jaw type pliers. Be sure to lock the pliers on the shaft of the pin. Do not lock onto the machined head of the pin or damage to the pin may result.

3. Rotate the pin clockwise, which will raise the head of the pin and loosen the latch. Check the latching action and adjust the pin until the required effort is attained. Close the lid and check the gap between the lid and the bottom of the armrest. The gap should riot exceed 1 mm (.040 in.). If this adjustment cannot be made, the armrest lid or armrest assembly must be replaced. Refer to the Mopar catalog for parts replacement information.

POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
