MODELS:

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 4.7 L ENGINE.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
AM radio reception may be weak or excessive static may be present.
DIAGNOSIS:
If customers indicate poor AM reception or excessive static is present in the AM band, inspect the ground strap at the rear of the engine. The ground strap must be connected to the cylinder heads and to the heat shield located just above the "Y" in the front exhaust pipe as shown in (Fig. 2). If the ground strap is not attached at the heat shield, perform the Repair Procedure
PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist
2. A ground strap located on the back of the engine provides a body ground between the cylinder head and the body at the bulk head. Remove the screws or nuts that attach the ground strap. Discard the ground strap.
3. Remove the nut shown from the exhaust heat shield stud. (Fig. 1). The heat shield is located just above the area where the left and right exhaust down pipes join to form the "Y". Discard the nut. (Fig. 2)
NOTE:
The nut used to retain the heat shield may be stamped steel. This type of nut must not be used to install the ground strap.
4. Inspect the new ground strap, p/n 56043078AC. There are three eyelets for the attaching screws. One of the eyelets is serrated. The serrated eyelet must be attached at the exhaust heat shield. Install the two non-serrated eyelets in the original upper Locations using the screws/ nuts removed earlier. Tighten the nuts to 11 Nm (95 in. lb.). (Fig. 2).
5. Position the serrated eyelet on the stud and install the new nut. p/n 06505190AA. Tighten the nut to 5 Nm (45 in. lb.).
6. Lower the vehicle
