Fuel Injection System

Fig.18 Fuel Injectors / Fuel Rail / Fuel Rail Components:

FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR - CNG ONLY
The fuel temperature sensor is located on the right/rear side of the fuel injector rail

The fuel temperature sensor signal, along with other sensors, will provide for calculation of fuel injector timing through the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

FUEL INJECTOR - CNG ONLY
Eight (8) unique fuel injectorsare used to supply natural gas to the engine. Each injector is attached to a common fuel injector rail.

The injectors control fuel into each individual cylinder through each intake port.

Because there is no liquid (gasoline) passing through the injector to help muffle sound, the CNG injectors may seem to be louder (clicking) than normal.

The fuel injectors are energized individually in a sequential order by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM will adjust the injector pulse width by switching the ground path to each individual injector on and off. Injector pulse width is the period of time that the injector is energized. The PCM will adjust injector pulse width based on various inputs it receives.
