DISCUSSION
Some discoloration of the brake fluid may be present on some of the vehicles listed above. A red dye used to identify a master cylinder piston for assembly purposes, can dissolve into the brake fluid. If this has occurred, the fluid color can noticeably change to a red or amber color. this can often be seen through the master cylinder reservoir. This condition will have no detrimental effects on the brake system. Some reports have been received stating that the fluid may appear to look like automatic transmission or power steering fluid. These fluids as well as other organic materials will cause swelling of the rubber gaskets and seals in the brake system. This will be evident with visible swelling of the master cylinder cover gasket and can lead to severe brake drag. If the fluid is discolored as stated, remove the master cylinder cover and inspect gasket, if no swelling is present, the system will operate normally.
