THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES SERVICE BULLETIN 18-022-03 DATED MAY 23, 2003, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN EXPANDED TO COVER THE ENTIRE 2003 MODEL YEAR.

SUBJECT:
No-Start, Start & Stall, MIL Illumination, Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCS) P0508/P0509

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

MODELS:

2003 (RG) Chrysler Voyager

2003 (RS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.3L or 3.8L engine (sales codes EGA, EGH, EGM).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicle operator may describe a engine no-start, or start & stall, or MIL illumination with a rough/fluctuating idle. This condition may only occur in cold ambient temperatures; below 0° C. (32° F). This condition may not be able to be duplicated after the PCM has warmed above 0° C. (32° F). This condition can only be diagnosed in cold ambient temperatures; below 0° C. (32° F.).

Technicians may find the following DTCs:

P0508 - IAC Value Sense Circuit Low P0509 - IAC Value Sense Circuit High

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle operator describes, or the technician experiences, any of the Symptom/Conditions, perform the Repair Procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

NOTE:
Order the part number PCM that is currently on the vehicle.





SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

NOTE:
An updated J1962 cable has been released. This cable has a red colored connector at the DRBIII(R) connection. Use this cable whenever a flash is being performed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Whenever a PCM/TCM is replaced or reprogrammed, the software in the controller and DRBIII(R) must be verified as having the latest revision level. If a controller software update flash is available, complete the flash and labeling requirement as directed in the appropriate service bulletin identified on TechCONNECT.

1. Replace the PCM with the part number currently on the vehicle. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the 2003 Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-03062) page 8E-16.

2. Perform the Powertrain Verification Test VER-2. Refer to the service information available in TechCONNECT or the 2003 Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures Manual (Publication No. 81-370-03038) page 499.
