Instrument Panel Base Trim Replacement

BASE TRIM

REMOVAL


WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR- BAGS, DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, SEAT BELT TENSIONER, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.


1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to Instrument Panel System Replacement. Instrument Panel Assembly
3. Place the instrument panel on a suitable work surface. Be certain to take the proper precautions to protect the instrument panel from any possible cosmetic damage.
4. Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel.
5. Remove the radio from the instrument panel.
6. Remove the top cover from the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Top Cover Replacement. Instrument Panel Top Cover


NOTE: Four of the screws secure the lower instrument panel duct to the base trim.


7. Remove the screws around the perimeter of the instrument panel that secure the base trim to the instrument panel structural support.
8. Remove the base trim from the instrument panel structural support.

INSTALLATION

DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.


1. Position the base trim onto the instrument panel structural support.
2. Install and tighten the screws around the perimeter of the instrument panel that secure the base trim to the instrument panel structural support. Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.).
3. Reinstall the top cover onto the instrument panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Top Cover Replacement. Instrument Panel Top Cover
4. Reinstall the radio into the instrument panel.
5. Install the instrument cluster into the instrument panel.
6. Reinstall the instrument panel into the vehicle. Refer to Instrument Panel System Replacement. Instrument Panel Assembly
7. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
