ACM Cover
On some models, particularly van conversions, the driver side front seat riser may require removal in order to access the Airbag Control Module (ACM) and the ACM cover for service.WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR-BAGS, DISABLE THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY STEERING WHEEL, STEERING COLUMN, DRIVER AIRBAG, PASSENGER AIRBAG, SEAT BELT TENSIONER, OR INSTRUMENT PANEL COMPONENT DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE BATTERY NEGATIVE (GROUND) CABLE, THEN WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE SYSTEM CAPACITOR TO DISCHARGE BEFORE PERFORMING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OR SERVICE. THIS IS THE ONLY SURE WAY TO DISABLE THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM. FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
ACM Cover Remove/Install:
2. Reach under the front of the driver side front seat riser to access the molded plastic ACM cover on the front floor panel. The cover is secured to the floor panel with double-faced acrylic foam tape. Using a trim stick or another suitable wide flat-bladed tool, gently pry each side of the ACM cover away from the floor panel far enough to disengage the double-faced tape.
3. Remove the ACM cover from the front floor panel. Discard the cover after it has been removed.
INSTALLATION
1. Remove all remnants of the acrylic foam tape that secured the removed ACM cover from the front floor panel. Clean the floor panel with isopropyl alcohol in preparation to receive the acrylic foam tape on the new ACM cover. The ACM cover MUST be replaced with a new cover following service removal.
2. Remove the release paper from the acrylic foam tape on the flange of the new ACM cover.
3. Carefully position the new cover over the ACM. Using hand pressure, press down firmly and evenly on the top of the ACM cover to seal the acrylic foam tape to the floor panel.
4. Do not reconnect the battery negative cable at this time. The airbag system verification test procedure should be performed following service of any supplemental restraint system component.
