Low-Pressure Fuel Shut-Off Solenoid

Fig.49 Fuel Rail And Components:

REMOVAL
The low-pressure fuel shut-off solenoid is mounted to the inlet side of the fuel injector rail (Fig. 49).

WARNING: NATURAL GAS MUST FIRST BE PURGED FROM SYSTEM BEFORE SOLENOID REMOVAL.

1. Purge fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Purging.
2. Remove engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Removal/Installation.
3. Remove air filter housing assembly.
4. Remove electrical connector at Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).
5. Disconnect power brake booster vacuum hose at intake manifold.
6. Disconnect solenoid electrical connector at engine wiring harness.

7. Disconnect low-pressure fuel line at low-pressure fuel shut-off solenoid (Fig. 50). A copper washer (gasket) is placed between line and solenoid (Fig. 51). Note direction of washer when removing.
8. Remove solenoid from fuel rail. Use a backup wrench on fuel rail hex to prevent damage to fuel rail.

INSTALLATION
1. Apply a small amount of anaerobic thread sealant to pipe threads only of solenoid. Be extremely careful not to get any of thread sealant into any fuel system opening. Use only an anaerobic thread sealant containing Teflon(TM).
2. Install solenoid into fuel rail.
3. Tighten solenoid to a horizontal position. Do not back off solenoid to attain a horizontal position.
4. Install a new copper washer (gasket) between fuel line and solenoid (Fig. 51).
5. Tighten fuel line at solenoid to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque.
6. Install electrical connector to TPS.
7. Install electrical connector to solenoid.
8. Install power brake booster vacuum hose to intake manifold.
9. Install air filter housing assembly
10. Check sensor for gas leaks Refer to Testing For Gas Leaks for procedures
11. Install engine cover.
