Bug Deflector Wind Whistle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing foam tape to the bug deflector.
MODELS:
2003 (DR) Ram Truck
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles equipped with a factory installed hood mounted bug deflector may exhibit a whistling sound coming from the front of the vehicle.
DIAGNOSIS:
If customers experience the whistling sound and the vehicle is equipped with the bug deflector, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Raise the hood and remove the bug deflector.
2. Clean the bottom inside edge of the bug deflector with an appropriate solvent to remove any dirt or grease to assure that the weather strip tape will adhere to the plastic (Fig. 1).
3. Cut a 400 mm (15 in.) piece of foam tape, p/n 04318028, from the roll. Cut tape in half lengthwise to make two 13 mm (1/2 in.) by 400 mm (15 in.) pieces. install the foam tape to the inside of the deflector, leaving 6 mm (1/4 in.) on each side of the fastener holes as shown. (Fig. 1 ) Use the second piece of foam for the other side of the bug deflector.
4. Install the bug deflector.
