Lower Ball Joint
REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the cotter pin, nut lock, and spring washer from the front drive shaft.
4. Remove the hub nut and washer from the front drive shaft.
5. Remove the brake caliper adapter bolts and support the caliper Disc Brake System
6. Remove the disc brake rotor.
7. Remove the rotor.
8. Remove the wheel speed sensor Wheel Speed Sensor
9. Remove the tie rod nut. Tie Rod
10. Separate the tie rod from the knuckle using special tool C3894-A.
11. Support the lower control arm with a jack.
12. Remove the steering knuckle. Service and Repair
13. remove the ball joint using special tools C-4212-F (press), 9333-2 (receiver), and 9333-1 (driver).
INSTALLATION
1. Install the ball joint into the control arm and press in using special tools C-4212-F (press), 9333-1 (receiver) and 8345 (driver) (LOWER BALL JOINT INSTALLATION).
2. Stake the ball joint flange in four places using a chisel and hammer.
3 In stall the steering knuckle Front Steering Knuckle
4. Install the half shaft nut and tighten to 244 N.m (180 ft. lbs.) Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints
5. Remove the jack from the lower control arm.
6. Install the tie rod end into the knuckle and Tighten the ball stud nut on the steering knuckle to 81 N.m (60 ft. lbs.). Tie Rod
7. Install the wheel speed sensor Tighten bolt to 18-25 N.m (160-220 in. lbs.) Wheel Speed Sensor
8. Position sensor on hub/bearing and install attaching bolts. Tighten bolt to 18-25 N.m (160-220 in. lbs.).
9. Install brake rotor and caliper. Brake Rotor/Disc
10. Install the rotor shield.
11. Install the rotor.
12. Install the caliper and adapter mounting bolts and tighten to 189 N.m (147.5 ft.lbs.).
13. Install the tire and wheel assembly Wheels and Tires
14. Adjust toe Alignment
