SUBJECT:
Flash: Driveability Improvements MIL Illumination Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0137 P0157 P0403 P0404 P0405 P0406 P2174 P2175

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

MODELS:

2004 (HB) Durango

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (sales code EZA).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The following enhancements are included with this software:

^ Improved A/C performance while at idle, or during city, stop and go driving (A/C compressor cycles off).

^ Improved A/C operation after a hot soak (A/C compressor cycles off).

^ Improved idle at start up in cold ambient temperatures.

^ Eliminates speed control drop out when the power windows are activated.

^ Reduced crank times during cold engine start up.

^ Improved automatic transmission shifting while in "Tow" mode.

^ Improved automatic transmission kick down response.

^ Improved automatic transmission shifting after a cold start.

The vehicle operator may experience a MIL illumination. Further diagnosis may determine that the MIL was caused by one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's):

P0137-02 SENSOR 1/2 CIRCUIT LOW
P0157-02 SENSOR 2/2 CIRCUIT LOW
P0403-EGR CONTROL CIRCUIT
P0404-EGR POSITION SENSOR PERFORMANCE
P0405-EGR POSITION SENSOR LOW
P0406-EGR POSITION SENSOR HIGH
P2174-LOW AIRFLOW/RESTRICTION DETECTED (INSTANT ACCUMULATION)
P2175-LOW AIRFLOW/RESTRICTION DETECTED (SLOW ACCUMULATION)

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present, other than those listed above, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE:
There are two methods to download flash files to StarSCAN. The first (preferred) method is to download the flash files to the StarSCAN from the internet. The second method is to download the flash files from the StarSCAN Software Update CD.
