Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair
RADIATOR FANREMOVAL
8.3L ENGINE
1. Disconnect the battery negative cables.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove air intake tube between intake manifold and air filter assembly.
4. Unclip A/C lines from radiator fan shroud, and position out of the way
5. Remove coolant recover bottle and coolant container tube.
6. Remove upper radiator hose from radiator and position out of the way.
7. Raise vehicle on hoist.
8. Disconnect the high and low pressure hydraulic hoses at the hydraulic fan motor.
9. Disconnect solenoid electrical connector (1).
10. Lower vehicle
11. Remove the four fan shroud retaining bolts.
12. Remove the fan motor and shroud assembly from the vehicle.
CLEANING
Clean the fan blades using a mild soap and water. Do not use an abrasive to clean the blades.
INSPECTION
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BEND OR STRAIGHTEN FAN BLADES IF FAN IS NOT WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS.
CAUTION: If fan blade assembly is replaced because of mechanical damage, water pump and viscous fan drive should also be inspected. These components could have been damaged due to excessive vibration.
INSTALLATION
1. Position fan motor and shroud assembly in vehicle.
2. Install the mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 10 Nm (98 inch lbs.).
3. Install coolant recovery bottle.
4. Raise vehicle.
5. Connect fan solenoid electrical connector.
6. Install pressure line to radiator fan motor. Tighten fitting to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
7. Install return line to radiator fan motor. Tighten fitting to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Fill cooling system.
10. Connect negative battery cable.
11. Fill power steering system.
