SUBJECT:
Inoperative A/C System Due To Rear Evaporator Condition
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves replacing the rear A/C evaporator and possibly the rear extension tubes and performing the refrigerant system charge procedure.
MODELS:
2006 - 2007 (RS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager
2006 - 2007 (RG) Chrysler Voyager (International Markets)
2007 (R2) Caravan/Voyager(CKD)
NOTE:
The bulletin applied to vehicles equipped with rear air conditioning (Sales Code HBB).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customer may complain that the A/C system doesn't get cold or blows only hot air. This condition may be caused by small leaks at the rear evaporator tubes within the rear HVAC unit. A new rear evaporator kit has been designed to address this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH or StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all HVAC systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the above symptom/condition is experienced or can be verified, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Replace the rear evaporator (p/n CNTKX210AA). Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 24 - Heating & Air Conditioning> Plumbing, Rear> Evaporator A/C Rear > Removal and Installation Procedures.
NOTE:
Refer to the I-sheet K6855691 for rear heater-A/C housing modification instructions.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to replace the 0-rings on the A/C lines if damaged. Use part number 05072461AB and 04882137
NOTE:
**Add the appropriate type and amount of PAG oil for Rear Evaporator Replacement as found in the service procedures located in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT.**
2. Inspect the two rear A/C extension tubes (3) for signs of corrosion (Fig. 1).
3. **Are the rear A/C extension tubes corroded?**
a. YES >>> Replace the rear A/C extension tubes (p/n 5183256AA). It may be necessary to replace the 0-rings on the A/C lines if damaged. Use part number 05072461AB and 04882137 and then proceed to Step # 4.
b. NO >>> Proceed to Step # 4.
NOTE:
**DO not replace the extension tubes for general (light) corrosion. Pay close attention around the sealing areas. **
4. Re-charge the A/C system. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 24 - Heating & Air Conditioning > Plumbing, Front > Standard Procedure - Refrigerant System Charge.
5. Top off the engine coolant as required.
