B1963-POWER LIFTGATE STRUT PERFORMANCEWHEN MONITORED
Whenever the Power Liftgate Module is awake.
SET CONDITION
The power liftgate module has detected considerable difference between the opening and closing effort.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Binding liftgate
- Weak struts
- Power liftgate drive unit
Diagnostic Test
1. DTC PRESENT
With the scan tool, record DTC's and any liftgate inhibitors.
Erase DTC's
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition on.
Operate the liftgate several times.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Q: Does the scan tool display B1963-POWER LIFTGATE STRUT PERFORMANCE?
YES: Go To 2
NO: Ensure there is no intermittent binding or cold weather condition which may have caused this code to set. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
2. BINDING LIFTGATE
Operate the liftgate manually.
Q: Does the Liftgate bind or stick while opening or closing?
NO: Go To 3
YES: Repair the cause for the binding liftgate. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
3. WEAK STRUTS
Check the prop rods to ensure the liftgate will self rise from approximately 1/4 open position.
If necessary, compare the effort to open and close the liftgate with a known good vehicle.
Q: Does the liftgate self rise as it should?
NO: Replace the Liftgate Prop Rods (struts). Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
YES: Replace the Power Liftgate Drive Unit. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
