B2107-IGNITION SWITCH SENSE INPUT CIRCUIT/PERFORMANCE

B2107-Ignition Switch Sense Input Circuit/Performance:






WHEN MONITORED
With the ignition on.

SET CONDITION
The Cluster detects an Ignition Switch performance fault.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- OPEN ignition switch output fuse(s)
- (F21) Ignition switch output (off/run/start) circuit open or shorted to ground
- (F1) Ignition switch output (unlock/run/start) circuit open or shorted to ground
- (F924) Ignition switch output (RUN) circuit open or shorted to ground
- (F983) Ignition switch output (RUN/ACC) circuit open or shorted to ground
- (A953) Ignition (run/acc) circuit open or shorted to ground
- Ignition switch
- Instrument cluster

Diagnostic Test

1. TEST FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION

NOTE: Troubleshoot any Ignition, Battery, or Cluster DTCs before proceeding.

Turn the ignition on.
Using the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.
Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
Using the scan tool, read DTCs.

Q: Does the scan tool display: B2107-IGNITION SWITCH SENSE INPUT CIRCUIT/PERFORMANCE?

YES: Go To 2
NO: The condition that caused this code to set is not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition. Operate the system several times and recheck for active DTCs. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

2. CHECK FOR OPEN IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT FUSES

Turn the ignition off.
Using the wiring/circuit diagrams, check the following fuses for an open:
- PDC fuse no. 27
- PDC fuse no. 1
- JB fuse no. 9
- JB fuse no. 19
- JB fuse no. 34

Q: Are any of the fuses open?

YES: Go To 3
NO: Go To 4

3. CHECK FOR OPEN IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT FUSES

Replace the open fuse(s).
Cycle the ignition through ALL positions.
Turn the ignition off.
Check each fuse that was replaced for an open.

NOTE: Perform the diagnostic procedure for each fuse that is open before making any repairs. Doing so will identify all possible conditions causing this DTC to set.

Q: Was any replaced fuse open? (Select from the following)

PDC fuse no. 27
Go To 9

JB fuse no. 19
Go To 12

JB fuse no. 34
Go To 13

JB fuse no. 9
Go To 14

PDC fuse no. 1
Go To 15

No fuses open
The condition that caused the fuse(s) to open is not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for an intermittent condition. Operate the system several times and recheck for active DTCs. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

4. CHECK VOLTAGE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUITS AT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER C1 AND C3 CONNECTORS

NOTE: Remove the starter relay.




Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C1 and C3 harness connectors.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the following circuits:
- (F21) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/START) circuit with the ignition in the RUN, and START positions.
- (F1) Ignition Switch Output (UNLOCK/RUN/START) circuit with the ignition in the RUN and START positions.
- (F924) Ignition Switch Output (RUN) circuit with the ignition in the RUN position.

Q: Is the voltage above 10.0 volts on each circuit?

YES: Go To 5
NO: Go To 5

5. CHECK VOLTAGE OF THE (F983) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT AT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER C3 HARNESS CONNECTOR

NOTE: Reinstall the Starter Relay.




Measure the voltage of the (F983) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit.

Q: Is the voltage above 10.0 volts on all the circuits tested in steps 4 and 5?

YES: Replace the Instrument Cluster. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: (F21) (F924) or (F1) below 10.0 volts
Go To 6

NO: (F983) below 10.0 volts
Go To 7

6. CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUITS WITH VOLTAGE BELOW 10.0 VOLTS FOR AN OPEN




Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the Ignition Switch Output circuit(s) (F21), (F924), (F1) (from step 5, the circuit(s) below 10.0 volts) between the Ignition Switch harness connector and the Instrument Cluster C1/C3 harness connector.

Q: Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

YES: Replace the Ignition Switch. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Repair the circuit(s) with a resistance above 5.0 ohms. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

7. CHECK THE (F983) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN




Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the (F983) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit between the Ignition Switch harness connector and the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.

Q: Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?

YES: Go To 8
NO: Repair the (F983) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit for an open. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

8. CHECK VOLTAGE OF THE (A953) IGNITION (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT AT THE IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS CONNECTOR




Measure the voltage of the (A953) Ignition (RUN/ACC) circuit.

Q: Is the voltage above 10.0 volts?

YES: Replace the Ignition Switch. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Repair the (A953) Ignition (RUN/ACC) circuit for an open. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

9. CHECK (F983) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector.
Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (F983) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit at the Ignition Switch harness connector.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (F983) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Go To 10

10. CHECK (A953) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/ACC) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Measure the resistance between ground and the (A953) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit at the Ignition Switch harness connector.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (A953) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Go To 11

11. CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Reconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector.
Replace PDC fuse no. 27 for the (A953) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit.
Cycle the ignition switch through all positions.
Turn the ignition off.
Check the PDC fuse no. 27 for the (A953) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/ACC) circuit.

Q: Is the fuse open?

YES: Replace the Ignition Switch. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Replace the Instrument Cluster Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

12. CHECK (F21) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN/START) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (F21) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/START) circuit.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (F21) Ignition Switch Output (RUN/START) circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Replace the Instrument Cluster. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

13. CHECK (F1) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (OFF/RUN/START) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (F1) Ignition Switch Output (OFF/RUN/START) circuit.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (F1) Ignition Switch Output (OFF/RUN/START) for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Replace the Instrument Cluster. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

14. CHECK (F924) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C1 harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (F924) Ignition Switch Output (RUN) circuit.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (F924) Ignition Switch Output (RUN) circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Replace the Instrument Cluster. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test

15. CHECK (A923) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Ignition Switch harness connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (A923) Fused B+ circuit.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms?

YES: Repair the (A923) Fused B+ circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Go To 16

16. CHECK CIRCUITS F901, F941, F961 FOR A SHORT TO GROUND




Remove JB fuses: 9, 19, 34.
Using the wiring diagrams, measure the resistance between ground and the F901, F941, F961 circuits.

Q: Is the resistance below 10K ohms on any one of these circuits?

YES: Repair the appropriate circuit for a short to ground. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
NO: Replace the Ignition Switch. Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1. Body Verification Test
