Control Arm-Lower
CONTROL ARM-LOWERREMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly
3. Remove the disc brake caliper assembly (2).
4. Remove the disc brake rotor (1).
5. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor at the wheel well.
6. Disconnect the tie rod (2) from the knuckle using special tool 8677 (1).
7. Remove the front half shaft nut 4X4 only.
8. Remove the upper ball joint nut. Separate the upper ball joint (1) from the steering knuckle (3) with Remover 8677 (2).
9. Remove the lower ball joint nut. Separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle (1) with Remover 8677 (2).
10. Remove the steering knuckle (1).
11. Unload the torsion bar using special tool 8686 (1).
12. Remove the torsion bar (6) from the vehicle.
13. Remove the stabilizer bar link.
14. Remove the shock absorber lower bolt.
15. Remove the front and rear pivot bolts (3&4).
16. Remove the lower control arm (5) from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the lower control arm (5) at the frame rail brackets. Install the pivot bolts (3) and nuts (4). Tighten the nuts finger-tight.
CAUTION: The ball joint stud taper must be CLEAN and DRY before installing the knuckle. Clean the stud taper with mineral spirits to remove dirt and grease.
2. Install the steering knuckle (1).
3. Insert the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle. Install and tighten the retaining nut to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the torsion bar (6).
5. Install shock absorber lower bolt and tighten to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the front halfshaft nut 4X4.
7. Insert the upper ball joint into the steering knuckle (1). Install and tighten the retaining nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the stabilizer bar link and tighten to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.).
9. Tighten the lower control arm pivot nut (4) and bolts (3) (to 244 Nm (180 ft. lbs.).
10. Insert the outer tie rod end into the steering knuckle (1). Install and tighten the retaining nut to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
11. Install the disc brake rotor.
12. Install the disc brake caliper and adapter assembly (2) and tighten to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
14. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
15. Adjust the front suspension height and perform a wheel alignment.
