Engine CAN Bus - The Coding For Component Transmission Control
0390-ENGINE CAN BUS - THE CODING FOR COMPONENT TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT
For a complete wiring diagram refer to Diagrams/Electrical.
- When Monitored:
Ignition on, engine running.
- Set Condition:
When the PCM does not recognize the Transmission Control Module. One trip fault.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.
Theory of Operation
Diagnostic Test
1. ACTIVE DTC
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, check the DTCs
Is the DTC Active at this time?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Diagnostic Procedure. Checking for an Intermittent DTC
2. TCM CALIBRATION
Check for any TSBs that may apply to this fault code.
Verify the correct TCM has been installed if the TCM was recently replaced.
Verify that the Transmission Control Module is at the latest calibration level.
Is the TCM at the latest calibration?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Flash the TCM so it is at the latest calibration level.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Powertrain Verification Test
3. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Powertrain Verification Test
No
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Powertrain Verification Test
