Right Cylinder Head

RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD




1. Install the exhaust manifold studs into the cylinder head.
2. Torque the exhaust manifold studs to 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.)
3. Install the exhaust manifold on the cylinder head.
4. torque the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 Nm (141 in.lbs.).





5. Remove any gasket material, oil, and debris from the cylinder head sealing surfaces.
6. Install a new cylinder head gasket.
7. Install the cylinder head.






8. Install the cylinder head to timing case bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and then an additional 90 degrees.
9. Install the remaining cylinder head bolts and use a spiral pattern to tighten in five stages:
a. Stage 1 - 20 Nm (177 in. lbs.)
b. Stage 2 - 40 Nm (354 in. lbs.)
c. Stage 3 - 40 Nm (354 in. lbs)
d. Stage 4 - 90 degrees
e. Stage 5 - 90 degrees
10. Install the timing chain slide rail.
11. Install the timing chain slide rail pins into the cylinder head.




12. Install the camshafts.




13. Install the camshaft adjuster so that the pin (6) lines up with the hole in the camshaft (5).
14. Install the camshaft adjuster.
15. Position the timing chain on the camshaft adjuster.
16. Remove the drift from the camshaft adjuster.




17. Install the camshaft adjuster tone wheel (left side shown).




18. Make sure the timing marks on the camshaft adjuster are lined up correctly.




Install the camshaft adjuster center bolts (left side shown).




19. Install the timing chain tensioner.




20. Install the right cylinder head cover.




21. Install the intake manifold assembly.
22. Install the air pump and engine cover bracket and tighten the bolts to 9 Nm ( 80 in. lbs.)
23. Install the air injection pump hoses.




24. Install the fuel rail and fuel injectors.
25. Install the bolts from the fuel rail.
26. Install and connect the engine harness.




27. Reconnect the remote battery positive terminal connection.
28. Install the right PCM bracket.
29. Install the left PCM bracket.
30. Install the PCM.
31. Reconnect the PCM.




32. Install the right upper front cover.
33. Install the right cylinder head camshaft position sensors.
34. Reconnect the right cylinder head camshaft position sensors.

NOTE: If the power steering reservoir bolts were loosened during the removal procedure, tighten them to 21 Nm (185 in. lbs.).




35. Install the air control valve gasket.




36. Tighten the right air control valve bolts to 14 Nm (124 in. lbs.).
37. Install the right air control valve air tube.




38. Install the accessory drive tensioner pulley.
39. Install the accessory drive tensioner pulley bolts.
40. Install the upper idler pulleys (2).




41. Install the accessory drive belt.




42. Install the three ignition coils in the right cylinder head.
43. Install the ignition coil bolts for the three coils in the right cylinder head.
44. Reconnect the three ignition coils (1) in the right cylinder head.
45. Install the engine harness bolts.
46. Install the transmission dipstick.
47. Install the upper transmission dipstick (2) bolts.




48. Reconnect the fuel line.




49. Reconnect the canister purge line.
50. Install the brake booster vacuum line.
51. Install the evaporative emissions vacuum lines.
52. Install the intake air housing support.




53. Install the upper radiator hose.
54. Install the fan assembly.
55. Install the fan shroud assembly.




56. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
57. Install the lower radiator hose.
58. Install the lower transmission dipstick tube bolt.
59. Install the right side catalytic converter.
60. Lower the hoist.




61. Install the generator.
62. Fill the oil.
63. Fill the coolant.
64. Install the lower sound shield.




65. Install the accessory drive belt.




66. Reconnect the battery.




67. Install the intake air housing.
