Left Cylinder Head






LEFT CYLINDER HEAD




1. Remove the intake air housing.




2. Disconnect the battery.




3. Remove the accessory drive belt.




4. Rotate the engine in a clockwise direction until the number one cylinder is at 40 degrees after top dead center.
5. Raise the vehicle on the hoist.
6. Remove the lower sound shield.
7. Drain the coolant.
8. Drain the oil.
9. Remove the left side catalytic converter to manifold bolts.
10. Remove the timing chain tensioner.
11. Lower the hoist.




12. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine.
13. Remove the fan assembly.
14. Remove the fan shroud assembly.




15. Disconnect the canister purge line from the engine.
16. Remove the intake air housing support.
17. Remove the evaporative emissions vacuum lines.




18. Release the fuel pressure at the fuel rail (1).
19. Disconnect all 6 fuel injectors (4).
20. Remove the bolts from the fuel rail (3).
21. Remove the fuel rail (3) and fuel injectors (4).




22. Disconnect the fuel line (1).




23. Disconnect the PCM (1).
24. Remove the PCM (1).
25. Remove the left PCM bracket.
26. Remove the right PCM bracket.
27. Position aside the remote battery positive terminal connection.




28. Disconnect the engine wiring harness ground from the left cylinder head.
29. Disconnect the three ignition coils in the left cylinder head (right side shown).
30. Remove the bolts from the engine harness.
31. Position aside the engine harness.
32. Remove the ignition coil bolts for the three coils in the left cylinder head (right side shown).
33. Remove the three ignition coils from the left cylinder head.




34. Remove the intake manifold assembly.
35. Remove the air injection valve bolts.
36. Remove the air injection adapter bolts.
37. Remove the hoses from the air injection pump.
38. Remove the air injection pump and bracket.




39. Remove the upper idler pulleys (2).
40. Remove the accessory drive tensioner pulley bolts.
41. Remove the accessory drive tensioner pulley.




42. Remove the oil cooler housing bolts.
43. Remove the oil cooler housing.




44. Disconnect the right head camshaft position sensors.
45. Remove the right head camshaft position sensors.
46. Disconnect the left head camshaft position sensors.
47. Remove the left head camshaft position sensors.
48. Remove the left upper front cover.




49. Remove the left cylinder head cover.




50. Install a drift into the camshaft gear.
51. Remove the variable camshaft gears from the camshafts.
52. Position aside the timing chain.
53. Remove the intake camshaft drive gear.




54. Remove the intake camshaft clamps.
55. Remove the exhaust camshaft clamps.
56. Remove the intake camshaft.
57. Remove the exhaust camshaft.
58. Use a slide hammer to remove the timing chain slide rail pins from the cylinder head.
59. Remove the timing chain slide rail.




60. Use the illustrated pattern to loosen all of the cylinder head bolts.
61. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
62. Remove the cylinder head.
63. Place the cylinder head on wooden blocks on the bench.




64. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
65. Remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
66. Remove the exhaust manifold studs from the cylinder head.
