REAR
An electrically operated intermittent rear wiper and washer system is optional factory-installed equipment on this vehicle. The rear wiper and washer system includes the following major components, which are described in further detail:
- Body Control Module - The Body Control Module (BCM) (also known as the Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module/SAM) is located beneath the driver side end of the instrument panel in the passenger compartment, where it is secured to the fuse and relay block (also known as the SRB).
- Multi-Function Switch - The multi-function switch is secured to and directly connected to the back of the clockspring/Steering Control Module (SCM) (also known as the steering column module/MRM) near the top of the steering column below the steering wheel and is completely concealed beneath the steering column shrouds. Only the switch control stalk and control knob extending from the left side of the steering column are visible, while the remainder of the switch is concealed beneath the steering column shrouds. The multi-function switch contains all of the switches for the rear wiper and washer systems of vehicles that are so equipped, as well as for the front wiper and washer systems.
- Rain Sensor Module - A Rain Sensor Module (RSM) (also known as the Rain/Light Sensor Module/RLSM) is used on vehicles equipped with the optional automatic wiper and automatic lights features. The RSM is secured to the inside surface of the windshield glass, just below the base of the inside rear view mirror, where it is concealed beneath a molded plastic trim cover.
- Rear Washer Nozzle - A single washer nozzle with three separate orifices is secured with integral snap features to each rear wiper arm.
- Rear Washer Plumbing - The plumbing for the rear washer system consists of rubber hoses and molded plastic fittings. The plumbing is routed along the left side of the engine compartment from the washer reservoir, through the dash with the vehicle wire harness and through the passenger compartment to the two rear door hinge pillars. The hoses then pass through two holes with rubber grommets from the hinge pillars into the door interiors, where they connect to fittings on the rear wiper motors. The fitting on each rear wiper motor feeds the fluid through the center of the motor output shaft where a unique molded plastic elbow fitting is located on the output shaft on the outside of the rear door. The hoses for the rear washer nozzles are routed from the elbow fittings through the tension spring concealed on the underside of each wiper arm and are secured by molded plastic clips routing them to the washer nozzles.
- Rear Washer Pump/Motor - The electric rear washer pump/motor unit is located in a dedicated hole just behind the front washer pump/motor unit on the inboard-facing side near the front of the washer reservoir in the left front corner of the engine compartment.
- Rear Wiper Arm - The two equal length rear wiper arms are secured by a nut directly to the rear wiper motor output shafts, which extend through the inboard side of each rear door outer panel near the base of the rear door glass.
- Rear Wiper Blade - The two equal length rear wiper blades are secured to the two rear wiper arms, and are parked near the base of each rear door glass when the rear wiper system is not in operation.
- Rear Wiper Motor - The two rear wiper motors each include the motor bracket, a rubber-isolated wiper motor mount, an integral rear washer hose fitting and an internal rear wiper relay. The output shafts are the only visible components of the rear wiper motors. The remainder of the motors are concealed within the rear doors behind the lower rear door interior trim panels.
- Roof Control Module - The Roof Control Module (RCM) (also known as the Overhead Control Panel/OCP control unit or DBE) is included in the wiper system on vehicles that are also equipped with the optional automatic wiper feature. The RCM is secured above the OCP located in the center of the headliner within the passenger compartment, just behind the windshield header.
- Steering Control Module - The clockspring/Steering Control Module (SCM) (also known as the steering column module/MRM) is secured near the top of the steering column below the steering wheel and is completely concealed beneath the steering column shrouds.
- Washer Reservoir - The washer reservoir is secured by screws to the left front inner fender shield and is located directly over the left frame rail in the left front corner of the engine compartment. A single reservoir is used with the unused mounting holes for the optional rear washer system washer pump/motor unit and the optional headlamp washer system washer pump/motor unit filled by plugs. The washer reservoir filler neck has a molded blue plastic cap and is accessed from the left front corner of the engine compartment.
Hard wired circuitry connects the rear wiper and washer system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the rear wiper and washer system components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, proper wire and connector repair procedures, further details on wire harness routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
