Electrical - Hard Start/No Start/Dead Battery

Hard Start/No Start Due to Weak Battery

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves checking for ignition off power draw caused by the radio and if necessary replace the radio.

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to the above listed vehicles equipped with a MYGIG radio (sales code REN, REP, RER, REW or REZ) built before February 8, 2008 (MDH 0208XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicle operator may experience weak or dead battery condition. This may be caused by the radio not powering down properly and keeping the communication buss awake causing a parasitic battery draw.

DIAGNOSIS:

1. Sit in vehicle with windows and doors closed.

2. Turn off and remove key from ignition.

3. Wait 30 to 40 seconds.

4. Inspect radio backlight for flickering approximately every 20 seconds. Does backlight flicker and repeat about every 20 seconds?

^ Yes >>> Perform the Repair Procedure.

^ No >>> Further diagnosis is required, this bulletin does not apply. Perform the existing diagnostic procedure available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING > ELECTRICAL> BATTERY SYSTEM > DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Record customers station presets for future reference.

2. Replace the radio. Refer to the detailed removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 8 - ELECTRICAL > AUDIO/VIDEO-SERVICE INFORMATION > RADIO.

3. Turn radio ON, verify proper operation.

4. Program customers station presets recorded in Step # 1

5. Reset clock to correct time if applicable.
