Manual Transmission/Transaxle - Removal







REMOVAL





1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Shift transmission into Neutral and position on hoist.
3. Remove shift knob, shift lever boot (2) shift lever extension (1).
4. Remove lower shift lever boot assembly from floorpan.




5. Remove shift tower (1) bolts (2) through hole in the floorpan and remove shift tower (1) from the transmission.




6. Remove skid plate, if equipped (4WD).
7. Remove drain plug (1) from bottom of transmission (2) and drain fluid.




8. Mark propeller shaft/shafts companion flanges for installation reference.
9. Remove propeller shafts.
10. Remove Y-pipe from exhaust manifolds. Then lower exhaust pipes for clearance as necessary.
11. Remove backup light switch connector.
12. Remove clutch slave cylinder splash shield, if equipped.
13. Remove slave cylinder nuts (1) and remove slave cylinder (2).




14. Support and secure transmission (1) to transmission jack (2).




15. Remove transfer (1) from transmission (2) case if equipped.
16. Remove starter.
17. Remove transmission dust shield.
18. Remove rear crossmember.
19. Remove bolts/nuts from rear transmission mount.
20. Remove transmission harness wires from clips on transmission shift cover.




21. Lower transmission slightly and remove transmission bolts.

CAUTION: Do not remove structural dust cover from engine block. If cover is removed clutch housing and cover must be aligned with the engine.

22. Slide transmission (1) rearward until input shaft clears clutch assembly (2).
23. Lower transmission jack and remove from vehicle.
