THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 18-026-08, DATED JUNE 13, 2008, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDES ADDITIONAL ENGINES WITH A UPDATED REPAIR PROCEDURE.

THE StarSCAN(R) FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN MUST BE RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET.

StarSCAN(R) SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 9.03 OR HIGHER.

StarMOBILE DESKTOP CLIENT -OR- StarMOBILE STANDALONE MODE MAY ALSO BE USED TO PERFORM THE FLASH.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Intermittent Whistle Sound in Engine Compartment

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.

MODELS:

2008 (RI) Town & Country Voyager/Caravan (Includes International
Markets)

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.3L engines (sales code EGV) built prior to February 5, 2008 (MDH0205XX) **and all 3.8L or 4.0L engines (sales code EGL or EGQ).**

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some customers may occasionally hear a whistle sound coming from the engine compartment. The sound may be coming from the purge solenoid during vehicle operation.

DIAGNOSIS:

Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN(R)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the above symptom/condition is experienced or can be verified, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT, Refer To Group 8 - Electrical > Electronic Control Modules - Service Information > Module - Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming - Gas. After PCM reprogramming, the following must be performed on 62TE equipped vehicles:

a. Clear the Variable Line Pressure (VLP) Counters, found in the StarSCAN(R) Misc Function Menu. VLP Clear Counters must be completed on all models with a 62TE transmission.

b. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming.

c. Perform the Quick Learn function, found in the StarSCAN(R) Misc Function Menu.

2. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" and attach it near the VECI label.**
