Engine - Removal







REMOVAL

NOTE: Capture and store any residual fluid drainage, or leakage from ancillary components, in the appropriately marked containers.

1. Remove the engine cover.




2. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Service and Repair




3. Disconnect the positive (1) and negative (3) battery cables.




4. Disconnect the harness retainer (2), remove the three battery tray fasteners, and remove the battery tray (1).




5. Disconnect the coolant overflow Line (1) at the radiator fill cap, and remove the coolant overflow bottle (2).
6. Drain the coolant.




7. Remove the air filter housing (6).




8. Disconnect the cooling fan harness connectors (1) and (2).




9. Release the left (1) and right (2) cooling fan clips, and remove the cooling fan assembly.




10. Release tension from the accessory drive belt tensioner (2), and remove the accessory drive belt (1).




11. Remove the generator (1).




12. Remove the power steering line bracket retainers (1) and (2).




13. Disconnect the EVAP purge solenoid harness connector (1) and the A/C pressure transducer harness connector (2).




14. Disconnect the harness retainer (1) from the power steering pump.




15. Position the power steering pump (2) aside.




16. Remove the lower radiator hose (2).




17. Remove the A/C compressor and mounting studs.A/C Compressor - Removal.




18. Disconnect the fuel supply line (1) at the fuel rail (2).




19. Disconnect the EVAP purge line (1), the makeup air hose (3), and the ETC harness connector (2) from the ETC.




20. Disconnect the transaxle shifter cable (1).




21. Disconnect the input shaft speed sensor harness connector (1), the crankshaft position sensor harness connector (2), the downstream O2 sensor harness connector (3), and the upstream O2 sensor harness connector (4).




22. Disconnect the transaxle solenoid pack harness connector (1) and the ground strap bolt (2).




23. Disconnect the output speed sensor harness connectors (1) and (2).




24. Raise vehicle, remove the front and both side splash shieldsFront Wheelhouse Splash Shield - Removal.
25. Disconnect the PCM harness connector (2) and the inline harness connector (1).




26. Disconnect the engine oil cooler line (7) from the engine oil cooler.
27. Remove the right and left axle halfshafts.Half Shaft - Removal
28. Remove the cross-under pipe.Exhaust Manifold - Removal.




29. Remove the cross-under pipe bracket (4) from the bottom of the transaxle bellhousing (1).




30. Remove the Torque Converter Access Cover (2).




31. Remove the torque converter-to-driveplate bolts (1). Upon removing bolts, some driveplates have a tight-tolerance (slotted) bolt hole. If present, mark this location (driveplate and converter) with paint for re-alignment during installation.
32. Remove the lower Transaxle Bellhousing Bolts (2).




33. Remove the front engine mount through bolt (1)




34. Remove the Fasteners (1), and remove the rear engine mount heat shield (2).Remove rear transaxle mount bracket bolt (3).




35. Remove the remaining rear transaxle mount bracket bolts (1).




36. Remove the four rear crossmember bolts (1), the front crossmember bolt (2), and remove the crossmember (3).




37. Disconnect the harness retainer (1) from the transaxle shifter bracket.




38. Remove the heater hose bracket retainers (2) from the transaxle bellhousing and the left engine mount.




39. Remove the front heater line bracket retainer (1).




40. Disconnect oil cooler lines (1) from transaxle using disconnect tool 8875A.Transmission Oil Cooler Lines




41. Disconnect the shift cable (1) from the transaxle manual valve lever (2).
42. Disconnect the shift cable from the bracket.




43. Remove the rear maniverter (2).Exhaust Manifold - Removal.




44. Remove the oil dipstick tube bolt (1), and remove the oil dipstick tube.




45. Align the front right engine cradle post (2) with the Lift Point Hole in the Engine Block.
46. Align the front left engine cradle post and 8130 support bracket (1) with the lift point hole in the engine block.




47. Install 10107-1 Support Bracket (2) in the engine block, and align the left rear engine cradle post with the hole in the support bracket.
48. Install 10107-2 Support Bracket (1) in the engine block, and align the right rear engine cradle post with the hole in the support bracket.
49. Install safety straps so that they securely hold the powertrain assembly in the engine cradle. Tighten the fasteners at the base of each engine cradle post, and verify that the engine cradle posts are fully engaged in the lifting points.




50. Remove the right engine mount-to-engine fasteners (1).




51. Remove the left engine mount-to-engine fasteners (1).
52. Raise the vehicle body off of the powertrain.
53. Support the transaxle with a suitable lifting device.
54. Remove the remaining transaxle bellhousing bolts, and separate transaxle from engine assembly.
