Body - Grinding Noise From B-Pillar Area

SUBJECT:
Squeaking and/or Grinding Sound At The B-Pillar When Driving and/or When Opening And Closing Sliding and/or Front Door

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cycling the sliding and front door and if necessary adding grease to the upper and lower track as well as the striker(s).

MODELS:

2008-2010 RT Caravan/Town and Country

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before September 27, 2010 (MDHO927XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Squeaking and/or grinding sound at the b-pillar when driving and/or when opening and closing front and/or sliding door.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the symptom/condition is experienced, proceed to the repair procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Cycle the suspect sliding and/or front door seven times. Was the door squeaking and/or grinding?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2.

b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply continue further diagnosis.
2. From the selections bellow which door(s) where effected?

a. Sliding door only, Proceed to Step # 3.

b. Sliding door and front door only, Proceed to Step # 3.

c. Front door only, Proceed to Step # 7.





3. Apply a thin layer of grease along the upper sliding door track approximately eight to ten inches beginning at the front as shown in (Fig. 1).





4. Apply a thin layer of grease along the inner lower sliding door track approximately two to four inches beginning at the rear as shown in (Fig. 2).





5. Apply a small amount of grease in a downward motion on the sliding door striker as shown in (Fig. 3).

6. Was the front door squeaking and/or grinding?

a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 7.

b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 8.





7. Apply a small amount of grease along the front door striker using a brush in a downward motion as shown in (Fig. 4).

8. Cycle the sliding and front door open and close. Did the door exhibit any squeaking and/or grinding sounds?

a. Yes >>> This bulletin does not apply continue further diagnosis.

b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 9.

9. Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
