Removal

CAUTION: DO NOT adjust the idle switch at the throttle lever. This is adjusted at the factory and should not be tampered with. Doing so may result in damage to, or the need to replace the throttle body.

1. Remove the air duct assembly from the throttle body, if necessary.
2. Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) electrical connector at the bottom of the throttle body assembly.

Throttle Position Sensor Connector:

3. Remove the plastic connector shield from the male side of the TPS connector.

Throttle Position Sensor Connector:

4. Reconnect the unshielded males side TPS connector to the female connector. Be sure that the leads are in their proper locations.
NOTE: Use care not to ground the exposed leads.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON.
6. Make sure that both throttle valves are in the fully closed position.

Throttle Position Sensor Connector:

7. Connect a volt-ohmmeter (Rotunda #007-00001, or equivalent) to the red and black wires. Measure the red wire voltage. The reading should be 4.5-5.5 volts.

Throttle Position Sensor Connector:

8. Change the voltmeter connection to the white wire.
9. Loosen, but do not completely remove the TPS mounting screws.
10. Turn the TPS to adjust the white wire voltage within the range specified in the chart below for the red wire voltage.

Throttle Position Sensor Specification: Throttle Valve Fully Closed Position:

11. Tighten the TPS mounting screws and verify that the white wire voltage is still within range.
NOTE: If the white wire voltage cannot be adjusted to within the limit, the sensor must be replaced.

Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment:

12. Hold the throttle valves in the fully open position and measure the red wire voltage. Record the voltage measured.
13. With the throttle still wide open, measure the voltage at the white wire.
14. Compare the white wire voltage from step 13 with the red wire voltage from step 12. If the voltges do not compare to the chart below, the sensor must be replaced and this procedure repeated on the new sensor.

Throttle Position Sensor Specification: Throttle Valve Fully Open Position:

15. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the voltmeter and replace the plastic shield on the male side of the TPS connector.
16. Connect the TPS connector.
17. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and depress teh brake pedal for at least two seconds to eliminate the ECA malfunction memory, then reconnect the battery.
18. If the air duct was previously removed, install it.
