Theory of Operation
The variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) is electronically activated by the VGT actuator. The VGT actuator is a smart device and receives information via the J1939 datalink from the ECM. The VGT actuator performs its own diagnostics and reports failures back to the ECM using the J1939 datalink. The ECM then decodes the error message and converts it to a fault code.
- When Monitored:
Ignition on.
- Set Condition:
The internal VGT actuator temperature has exceeded 257°F (125°C)

Diagnostic Test
1. DTC P006F PRESENT
Turn Ignition on.
With the scan tool, read DTC's
Is P006F active?
Yes
- The VGT actuator internal temperature has exceeded the maximum limit. Verify generator, batteries, Smart Power Relay and TIPM connections are tight and free of dirt/corrosion. This fault code is for information only and will not light the MIL lamp.
