Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) - Operation

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING

The tire pressure monitoring system is designed to operate without loss of function for all OEM tire construction for this vehicle. The wheel sensors shall monitor tire pressure, air temperature inside the tire, wheel acceleration and the sensor internal battery status for all four active road tires. The sensor will broadcast this information to the Tire Pressure Monitor Module (TPMM) and if there is a fault found the telltale red lamp will illuminate on the instrument panel.

On a wheel change or tire rotation, the new location of the wheel sensors take place automatically after driving the vehicle for 10 minutes and a speed of 25 km/h or (15 mph). Here the message "Tire pressure display takes place after some minutes of driving" is shown in the display of the instrument cluster.

On a change of the tire pressure, the tire pressure monitor module (TPMM) must be reactivated or the current values reset with the DAS.

- Resetting the values is possible with the Star Diagnosis(R)
- High line instrument cluster: The new values are automatically taken over on a test drive; Resetting of the values is also possible from the steering wheel buttons.
- Low line instrument cluster: Resetting of the current values can take place from the instrument cluster. On a test drive a change of the tire pressure would otherwise be recognized as a fault.

Mild warning: If the air pressure drops below specs in one or more wheels by more than 0.2 bar (3 psi). under the pressure specified by the driver and stored in the (TPMM) the tire pressure monitor red telltale lamp lights after each following "ignition on" or the driver is requested to check the tire pressure from the multifunction display in the instrument cluster.

Severe warning: A severe warning is triggered when the air pressure in one or more tires drops below 1.9 bar (27.5 psi) or by 20 % of the inflation pressure (maximum 0.5 bar (7 psi).

The driver is requested to immediately stop the vehicle by the red telltale lamp and to check all tires. If necessary, a sealing compound is to be used.

- After using a tire sealant, the corresponding wheel sensor is to be replaced.

After a severe warning, reactivation of the tire pressure monitor system is required.
