Water Pump - Installation

Installation

Note: Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

1. If removed, install water pump inlet fitting to the water pump (1).
2. Properly position water pump (1) with a new gasket to the engine.

Note: Pay attention to the different bolt sizes ( called out as items 1-12 on graphics).

Note: To avoid possible water pump leaks or damage, bolts (1-12) must be tightened in a numerically ascending order as they are called out on the graphic. Bolts must be tightened in two separate stages.

3. Tighten the M7 x 28 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) to 10 Nm (7 lbs. ft., 89 lbs. in.).
4. Tighten the M8 x 75 bolts (9, 10, 11) to 5 Nm (44 lbs. in.).
5. Tighten the M8 x 110 bolt (12) to 5 Nm (44 lbs. in.).
6. Once the water pump is secured, tighten the M8 x 28 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) to 25 Nm (18 lbs. ft.).
7. Tighten the M8 x 75 bolts (9, 10, 11) to 20 Nm (15 lbs. ft.).
8. Tighten the M8 x 110 bolt (12) to 20 Nm (15 lbs. ft.).
9. Connect the hoses and lines to the water pump.
10. Install the fan drive pulley to the water pump. Tighten the bolts to 35 Nm (26 lbs. ft.).

Note: The radiator fan assembly is attached (threaded) to the fan pulley (1). Install the fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to the fan pulley by turning the mounting nut counter-clockwise as viewed from the front. Threads on the radiator cooling fan are REVERSE THREADED (LEFT-HAND THREAD).

11. Install the serpentine belt (1).

12. Install the rear A/C accessory drive drive belt (3) (if equipped).
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Install the fan and shroud.
15. Install the engine cover.
16. Install the air box assembly.
17. Connect the AGM starter negative battery cable located inside the vehicle under the instrument panel near the accelerator pedal.
18. Connect the negative battery cable.
19. Evacuate air and refill the cooling system.
20. Check for any leaks.
