Piston and Connecting Rod - Removal
REMOVAL
1. Remove the engine from the vehicle.Engine - Removal
2. Remove the left cylinder head.Cylinder Head - Installation
3. Remove the right cylinder head.Cylinder Head - Removal
4. Remove the lower oil pan.Engine Oil Pan - Removal
5. Remove the upper oil pan. Engine Oil Pan - Removal
6. Remove top ridge of cylinder bores with a reliable ridge reamer before removing pistons from cylinder block. Be sure to keep tops of pistons covered during this operation. Pistons and connecting rods must be removed from top of cylinder block. When removing piston and connecting rod assemblies from the engine, rotate crankshaft so that each connecting rod is centered in cylinder bore.
7. Remove the connecting rod bolts (7).
8. Remove the piston (3) and connecting rods (2) from the cylinder bores.
9. Inspect connecting rods and connecting rod caps (9) for cylinder identification. Identify them with a paint mark if necessary.
10. Remove connecting rod cap. Install protectors on connecting rod. Push each piston and rod assembly out of cylinder bore.
NOTE: Be careful not to nick crankshaft journals.
