Underbody Line
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.
NOTE: When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system Refrigerant Oil Level.
NOTE: Replacement of the refrigerant line O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.
NOTE: Underbody suction line (driver side) shown. Underbody discharge line (passenger side) similar.
1. Position the underbody suction line (driver side) or the underbody discharge line (passenger side) to the vehicle underbody. Rotate and tilt the underbody lines as necessary for installation.
2. If equipped, reposition the rear heater lines (2) to the left frame rail.
3. Install the fasteners (1) that secure the underbody lines to the frame rail. Tighten the nuts securely.
4. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line, reposition the driver side of the engine cradle and install the two bolts that secure the engine cradle to the underbody. Tighten the bolts to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.).
5. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings.
6. Lubricate new rubber O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-rings as they are made of a special material for the R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
7. If servicing the underbody suction line, connect the two sections of the underbody suction line (3 and 5) together at the left frame rail and install the retaining bolt (4). Tighten the bolt to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.).
8. Reinstall the heat shield brackets and heat shields as necessary to the vehicle underbody. Tighten the retaining nuts securely.
9. If servicing the underbody suction line when equipped with the 3.5L engine, install the left catalytic converter and support bracket Catalytic Converter - Installation.
10. If servicing the underbody suction line, reinstall the rear transmission crossmember. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) Service and Repair.
11. If servicing the rear section of the underbody suction line (1), install the nuts (2 and 4) that secure the underbody suction line and underbody heater lines (3), if equipped, to the driver side of the vehicle underbody. Tighten the nuts securely.
NOTE: Underbody suction line (driver side) shown. Underbody discharge line (passenger side) similar.
12. Connect the underbody suction line (driver side) (2) or the underbody discharge line (passenger side) to the interior refrigerant line (1) near the front door entry panel and install the retaining bolt (3). Tighten the bolt to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.).
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Position the rear underbody suction line (2) and rear underbody discharge line (4) to the right front frame rail and install the fasteners (3). Tighten the fasteners securely.
15. Connect the rear underbody suction line or the rear underbody discharge line to the front underbody suction line (6) or front underbody discharge line (5) as necessary and install the retaining bolt(s) (1). Tighten the bolt(s) to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.).
16. If servicing a front portion of an underbody refrigerant line, reconnect the underbody line being service to the rear A/C compressor A/C Compressor - Installation.
17. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
18. Evacuate the rear refrigerant system Refrigerant System Evacuate.
19. Adjust the refrigerant oil level Refrigerant Oil Level.
20. Charge the rear refrigerant system Refrigerant System Charge.
