Liquid Line
REMOVAL
WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: The A/C liquid line is serviced in three sections.
FRONT SECTION
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
4. Remove the nut that secures the A/C discharge line (2) to the A/C condenser (7).
5. Disconnect the A/C discharge line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal. Position the A/C discharge line out of the way.
6. Remove the nut that secures the A/C liquid line (5) to the A/C condenser.
7. Disconnect the A/C liquid line from the A/C condenser and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Depending on engine application, remove the heat shield from the left frame rail to gain access to the front section of the A/C liquid line.
10. Remove the two nuts that secure the front section of the A/C liquid line to the studs (6) located on the left frame rail.
11. If equipped with rear A/C, reposition the A/C underbody lines for access Rear Plumbing - Front Interior Lines Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Suction Line Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Discharge Line Rear Plumbing - Interior Liquid Line Underbody Line.
12. Remove the bolt that secures the front section of the A/C liquid line to the middle section of the A/C liquid line.
13. Disconnect the front section of the A/C liquid line from the middle section of the liquid line and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Remove the front section of the A/C liquid line from the engine compartment.
16. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and condenser ports.
MIDDLE SECTION
17. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
18. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
19. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
20. Raise and support the vehicle.
21. Depending on engine application, remove the heat shield from the left frame rail to gain access to the front section of the A/C liquid line.
22. Remove the two nuts that secure the front section of the A/C liquid line to the studs (6) located on the left frame rail.
23. If equipped with rear A/C, reposition the A/C underbody lines for access Rear Plumbing - Front Interior Lines Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Suction Line Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Discharge Line Rear Plumbing - Interior Liquid Line Underbody Line.
24. Remove the bolt that secures the front section of the A/C liquid line to the middle section of the A/C liquid line.
25. Disconnect the front section of the A/C liquid line from the middle section of the liquid line and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
26. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C liquid line to the rear section of the A/C liquid line (3).
27. Disconnect the middle section of the A/C liquid line from the rear section of the liquid line and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
28. Remove the middle section of the A/C liquid line from the engine compartment.
29. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings.
REAR SECTION
NOTE: The rear section of the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line are serviced as an assembly.
30. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
31. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
32. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
33. On diesel engine equipped models, remove the two nuts that secure the wire harness bracket to the air cleaner housing bracket located on the dash panel at the rear of the engine compartment and position the wire harness and bracket out of the way.
34. Remove the two nuts that secure the rear section of the A/C liquid line (3) and the rear section of the A/C suction line (2) to the dash panel.
35. Remove the nut that secures the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line to the A/C expansion valve (1).
36. Disconnect the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
37. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C suction line (11) to rear section of the A/C suction line.
38. Raise and support the vehicle.
39. Depending on engine application, remove the heat shield from the left frame rail to gain access to the front section of the A/C liquid line.
40. If equipped with rear A/C, reposition the A/C underbody lines for access Rear Plumbing - Front Interior Lines Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Suction Line Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Discharge Line Rear Plumbing - Interior Liquid Line Underbody Line.
41. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C liquid line (4) to rear section of the A/C liquid line.
42. Disconnect the rear section of the A/C liquid and suction lines from the middle section of the A/C liquid and suction lines and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
43. Lower the vehicle.
44. Remove the rear section of the A/C liquid and suction lines from the engine compartment as an assembly.
45. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and expansion valve ports.
