Suction Line
REMOVAL
WARNING: Review safety precautions and warnings in this group before performing this procedure Warning and Caution. Failure to follow the warnings and cautions may result in serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: The A/C suction line is serviced in three sections.
FRONT SECTION
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
4. Remove the windshield washer reservoir and position it out of the way for clearance Washer Reservoir - Removal.
5. On diesel engine equipped models, remove the turbo resonator and the charge air outlet tube from the left side of the engine and position it out of the way for clearance.
6. Remove the bolt that secures the front section of the A/C suction line (10) to the A/C compressor (9).
7. Disconnect the A/C suction line from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
8. Remove the bolt that secures the front section of the A/C suction line to the middle section of the A/C suction line (11).
9. Disconnect the front section of the A/C suction line from the middle section of the suction line and remove and discard the O-ring seal.
10. Remove the front section of the A/C suction line from the engine compartment.
11. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and compressor port.
MIDDLE SECTION
NOTE: On models equipped with rear A/C, the middle section of the A/C suction line connects to the underbody suction line.
12. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
13. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
14. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
15. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C suction line (11) to the front section of the A/C suction line (10).
16. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C suction line to the rear section of the A/C suction line (2).
17. Disconnect the middle section of the A/C suction line from the front and rear sections of the suction line and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
18. If equipped with rear A/C, reposition the A/C underbody lines for access Rear Plumbing - Front Interior Lines Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Suction Line Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Discharge Line Rear Plumbing - Interior Liquid Line Underbody Line.
19. Remove the nut that secures the middle section of the A/C suction line to the stud (12) located at the left frame rail in the engine compartment.
20. Remove the middle section of the A/C suction line from the engine compartment.
21. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings.
REAR SECTION
NOTE: The rear section of the A/C suction line and A/C liquid line are serviced as an assembly.
22. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
23. Remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment Service and Repair.
24. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Refrigerant System Recovery.
25. On diesel engine equipped models, remove the two nuts that secure the wire harness bracket to the air cleaner housing bracket located on the dash panel at the rear of the engine compartment and position the wire harness and bracket out of the way.
26. Remove the two nuts that secure the rear section of the A/C liquid line (3) and the rear section of the A/C suction line (2) to the dash panel.
27. Remove the nut that secures the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line to the A/C expansion valve (1).
28. Disconnect the A/C liquid line and A/C suction line from the A/C expansion valve and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
29. Remove the bolt that secures the middle section of the A/C suction line (11) to rear section of the A/C suction line.
30. Raise and support the vehicle.
31. Depending on engine application, remove the heat shield from the left frame rail to gain access to the front section of the A/C liquid line.
32. If equipped with rear A/C, reposition the A/C underbody lines for access Rear Plumbing - Front Interior Lines Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Suction Line Rear Plumbing - Rear Interior Discharge Line Rear Plumbing - Interior Liquid Line Underbody Line.
33. Remove the bolts that secure the middle section of the A/C liquid line (4) to rear section of the A/C liquid line.
34. Disconnect the rear section of the A/C liquid and suction lines from the middle section of the A/C liquid and suction lines and remove and discard the O-ring seals.
35. Lower the vehicle.
36. Remove the rear section of the A/C liquid and suction lines from the engine compartment as an assembly.
37. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened refrigerant line fittings and expansion valve ports.
