OPERATION

The PCM uses the swirl flap position sensors to monitor the mechanical limit positions of the swirl flap shafts. The swivel range of the swirl flaps between completely in or out is approximately 56°. The swirl flap position sensors are Hall effect sensors, and they contain two magnets of opposite polarity. When the swirl flaps are actuated, the swirl flap position sensor signals at the PCM control unit are approximately 0 volts. When the swirl flaps are not actuated, the swirl flap position sensor signals are approximately 5 volts.
