For a complete wiring diagram Consult Diagrams/Electrical
- When Monitored:
Continuously with the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
The DTC will set if the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) detects a malfunction in the PRNDL control circuit.
Always perform the NAG1 Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Testing and Inspection
Diagnostic Test
1. CHECK ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT
Is there an overall illumination problem with the vehicle?
Yes
- Refer to the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
- Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Transmission Verification Test
No
- Go to 2
2. CHECK THE TERM 58D ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
Disconnect the Shift Lever Assembly harness connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance between ground and the Illumination circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the Illumination circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Transmission Verification Test
No
- Go to 3
3. CHECK THE TERM 58D ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector.
Check the resistance of the Illumination circuit between the Shift Lever Assembly harness connector and the Instrument Cluster harness connector.
Is resistance above 100k ohms?
Yes
- Repair the Illumination circuit for an open.
- Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Transmission Verification Test
No
- Replace the Shift Lever Assembly (Illumination Module).
- Perform NAG1 TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Transmission Verification Test
