For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When a key is inserted in the ignition switch and is turned to the Run/Start position, the Wireless Control Module (WCM) performs a self-test and re-synchronization routine. During this routine, the WCM interrogates the key, performing various validity and performance tests.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition switch on.
Always perform the Wireless Control Module Pre-Diagnostic procedure before proceeding. Wireless Control Module (WCM) Verification Test.

NOTE: Before continuing, review and check the following conditions.
- Review the repair history of the vehicle. Make sure the vehicle has the correct Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and WCM installed. Check the part numbers.
- Using a scan tool, make sure the PCM and WCM have been programmed correctly. Compare the PCM VIN to the WCM VIN and make sure the two VINS match.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Using the scan tool, clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
3. Perform five ignition cycles, leaving the ignition switch on for a minimum of 90 seconds per cycle.
4. Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the DTC reset?
Yes
- Replace and program the Wireless Control Module.NOTE: If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module, it must be replaced along with the WCM.
- Perform the WIRELESS CONTROL MODULE (WCM) VERIFICATION TEST. . Wireless Control Module (WCM) Verification Test
No
- The DTC is not active at this time. Test complete.
