C230B-NEUTRAL INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
- Set Condition:
The instrument cluster detects high voltage on the neutral indicator control circuit.
1. NEUTRAL INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT DTC IS ACTIVE
1. Ignition on, engine not running.
2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Instrument Cluster.
3. Shift the Transfer Case into neutral for 30 seconds.
NOTE: To select or deselect Transfer Case Neutral, vehicle speed must be 0 km/h (0 mph) with the ignition on, engine off, the brake pedal applied, and the transmission in neutral (automatic transmission) or the clutch pedal pressed (manual transmission). Press the Neutral button (if equipped) on the Transfer Case Selector Switch until the Neutral Indicator is illuminated.
WARNING: Apply the parking brake. The vehicle may roll with the Transfer Case in neutral.
NOTE: To verify the Transfer Case is in Neutral, shift the automatic transmission into reverse and release the brake pedal for three seconds, or shift the manual transmission into gear and slowly release the clutch pedal. There should be no vehicle movement if the Transfer Case is in Neutral.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs in the Instrument cluster.
Does the DTC reset?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Go To 5
2. (G95) 4WD NEUTRAL INDICATOR CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
1. Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
2. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.
3. Ignition on, engine off.
4. Measure the voltage of the (G95) 4WD Neutral Indicator circuit at Instrument Cluster harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Go To 4
3. TRANSFER CASE SELECTOR SWITCH
1. Turn the ignition off to the lock position.
2. Disconnect the Transfer Case Selector Switch harness connector.
3. Ignition on, engine off.
4. Measure the voltage of the (G95) 4WD Neutral Indicator circuit at Instrument Cluster harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (G95) 4WD Neutral Indicator circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Transfer Case Selector Switch.
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST
4. (G95) 4WD NEUTRAL INDICATOR CIRCUIT OPEN
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Transfer Case Selector Switch harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance of the (G95) 4WD Neutral Indicator Control circuit between the Transfer Case Sector Switch harness connector and the Instrument Cluster C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the open in the (G95) 4WD Neutral Indicator circuit.
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST
No
- Replace the Instrument Cluster.
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST .
5. INTERMITTENT WIRING AND CONNECTORS
1. The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time.
2. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors.
3. Wiggle test the wiring and connectors while monitoring the scan tool data relative to this circuit.
4. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the TRANSFER CASE VERIFICATION TEST
No
- Test complete.
