B1E46-3RD ROW SEAT RIGHT BACKREST CONTROL CIRCUIT PERFORMANCE

- When Monitored:
Whenever the Backrest Motor is activated.
- Set Condition:
If the Folding Seat Module does not detect seat motor rotation from the motor position sensor after a switch activation input, this DTC will set.
1. CHECK FOR RELATED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read DTC's.
Does the scan tool display seat position sensor DTC?
Yes
- Diagnose and repair the other DTC(s) first. Testing and Inspection.
No
- Go To 2
2. TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. With the scan tool, erase all DTC's.
2. Activate the seat switch of the affected positions three times.
3. With the scan tool, read DTC's.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- The condition that caused this symptom is currently not present. Check for an intermittent condition by inspecting the related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
3. CHECK THE (P320) RIGHT SEAT BACK POSITION SENSOR SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT IN-LINE
1. Disconnect the C391 Power Folding Rear Seat 16 way in-line harness connector.
NOTE: Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
2. Connect a voltmeter between the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit and the (P321) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return circuit at the 16 way in-line harness connector.
3. With the Folding Seat Switch select the right seat.
4. Depress the Stow position switch.
Is the voltage 10.0 volts?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Go To 10
4. CHECK THE (P297) RIGHT SEAT BACK FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT IN-LINE
1. Using a 12-volt test light connect one lead to the (P297) Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver circuit at the in-line harness connector and the other lead to ground.
2. With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.
NOTE: Light should flash On with second button press.
Does the test light flash On momentarily?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Go To 12
5. CHECK THE (P298) RIGHT SEAT BACK REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT IN-LINE
1. Using a 12-volt test light connect one lead to the (P298) Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver circuit at the in-line harness connector and the other lead to ground.
2. With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.
Does the test light flash On momentarily?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Go To 13
6. CHECK THE (P297) RIGHT SEAT BACK FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT MOTOR
1. Reconnect the in-line connector.
2. Disconnect the Right Power Rear Folding Seat Back Motor connector.
3. Using a 12-volt test light connect one lead to the (P297) Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver circuit at the motor connector and the other lead to ground.
4. With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.
Does the test light flash On momentarily?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Repair the open (P297) Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver circuit back to the in-line connector.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
7. CHECK THE (P298) RIGHT SEAT BACK REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT MOTOR
1. Using a 12-volt test light connect one lead to the (P298) Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver circuit at the Seat Motor harness connector and the other lead to ground.
2. With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.
Does the test light flash On momentarily?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Repair the open (P298) Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver circuit back to the in-line connector.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
8. CHECK THE RIGHT SEAT BACK POSITION SENSOR SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT MOTOR
1. Connect a voltmeter between the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit and the (P321) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return circuit at the Seat Motor harness connector.
2. With the Folding Seat Switch select the right seat.
3. Depress the Stow position switch.
Is the voltage 10.0 volts?
Yes
- Remove the seat back motor assembly and inspect seat recliner mechanism for any binding or a seized condition. If OK, replace the motor assembly.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
No
- Go To 9
9. CHECK THE RIGHT SEAT BACK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Disconnect the C391 Power Folding Rear Seat 16 way in-line harness connector.
2. Measure the resistance of the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit between the Seat Motor harness connector and the in-line harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (P321) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
No
- Repair the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
10. CHECK THE (P320) RIGHT SEAT BACK POSITION SENSOR SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Disconnect the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector.
2. Measure the resistance of the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit between the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector and the in-line harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 11
No
- Repair the (P320) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
11. CHECK THE (P321) RIGHT SEAT BACK POSITION SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure the resistance of the (P321) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return circuit between the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector and the in-line harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Folding Seat Module.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
No
- Repair the (P321) Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
12. CHECK THE (P297) RIGHT SEAT BACK MOTOR FORWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Disconnect the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector.
2. Measure the resistance of the (P297) Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver circuit between the in-line harness connector to the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Folding Seat Module.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
No
- Repair the (P297) Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
13. CHECK THE (P298) RIGHT SEAT BACK MOTOR REARWARD DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Measure the resistance of the (P298) Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver circuit between the in-line harness connector and the Folding Seat Module C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Folding Seat Module.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
No
- Repair the (P298) Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver circuit for an open.
- Perform POWER FOLDING SEAT SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test.
